The membrane sits beneath the tiles as part of the roof’s weatherproofing system, while the battens provide the fixing framework for the new tile covering. Installing these components as part of the replacement meant the project was approached as a complete roof build-up rather than focusing solely on the appearance of the finished tiles.

Dry ridge mechanically secures the ridge tiles along the highest point of the roof rather than relying on traditional exposed mortar as the primary fixing method. Dry verge applies the same modern approach around the applicable tile edges at the gable ends of the roof.
