A valley is the junction where two roof slopes meet. It collects rainwater from both sides and directs it down towards the guttering, making it an important drainage detail on a pitched roof.
Water can enter when the valley, the adjoining roof covering or relevant supporting materials are damaged or deteriorated. The visible valley is part of an assembly: the slates or tiles around it and the materials beneath also matter when assessing a leak.
Dampness inside the house does not conclusively identify the valley as the source. Water can travel, and another junction or surrounding roof defect may be involved. Explain what you have noticed to Anthony so the cause and extent of the problem can be assessed.
